Time Trial is a game mode that appears in every Wipeout game. The objective is to complete a number of laps as fast as possible. This game mode is similar to Speed Lap.

Gameplay[]

In Time Trial, there is only the player. In addition, there are only speed pads on the track. The player has the objective of completing a number of laps as fast as possible. The player can use the speed pads to get the edge on the session. In later games, the player can also execute barrel rolls for better results. The player is also given a Turbo item for use in each lap, and another can be claimed by completing one lap. However, the Turbo item cannot be stockpiled.

Starting from Wipeout Pulse, the ship in Time Trial has infinite shield energy or health. Every time the ship sustains damage, its shield will constantly regenerate by itself.

In Campaign Mode, the medal awarded depends on the time the player takes to complete the session. In order to win a time trial event, the session must be completed within the Bronze time (Pulse and HD/Fury) or Pass time (2048).

Session Length[]

The number of laps varies with the speed class. The session ends when the player completes a preset number of laps.

In Wipeout, regardless of the speed class, Time Trials have 3 laps.

In Wipeout 2097, Wipeout 64 and Wipeout 3, the number of laps for each speed class is as below:

In Wipeout Pure, Wipeout Pulse and Wipeout HD/Fury, the number of laps for each speed class is as below:

NOTE: The Vector class did not appear in Pulse and HD/Fury.

In Wipeout 2048, Time Trial sessions have either 2 or 3 laps, depending on the speed class. Unlike in the other games, there is no free Turbo for use in each lap.
